Brit Hessler

Brit was raised in a valley in Appalachia coal country and has never been easily digestible. Always considered too much by those who are full of shit, but the perfect antidote for those who are lookin’ for a lettin’ go. Their kin folk instilled the importance of unions and plants as healin’ medicine at an early age. Their family encouraged redistribution of resources/goods based in their workin’ class roots which later informed Brit’s development of Slow Land. Y’all ever prayer chain with your Grammy? It’s boring as hell but useful.

Brit attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study Fiber and Material studies. They’ve archived Haitian art for Voudou priestesses, sewn designer leather bags for the stupid elite, made gear for musicians in Nashville, wove excessive tapestries til their hands bled, passionately taught students, rambled across the country more times than we can count, never had a passport, and loved the land so deeply it felt heartbreaking.

They’ve been workin’ with Appalachian folk medicine methods and have been an educator focused in nature and plants for the past 12 years. Ranging from elementary outdoor education to natural dye classes to plant identification, their passion is loping the land and sharing knowledge.

Armed with constant dirt under the nails and a caring attitude for people and plants, their passion for others keeps them fightin’ the system. Much like a stubborn mule in a field, Brit is an unwaverin’ protective force against those who cross their kin. If you need a bodyguard or a shoulder to cry on or someone to rage with, Brit is your perfect date.
